  • Another interpack comes to an end

    May 11, 2023

The history of interpack dates back to the 1950s, it’s a triennial trade fair for the packaging and processing industry, held in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The first interpack exhibition was held in 1958, with the aim of bringing together companies from the packaging industry to showcase their latest products and technologies. The show was organized by Messe Düsseldorf, the company that still manages the event today.

In its early years, interpack focused primarily on the food packaging industry, which was rapidly growing in post-war Europe. Over time, however, the exhibition expanded to include all types of packaging, from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to industrial and consumer goods.

In the 1990s, interpack embraced new digital technologies, such as computer-aided design and production, and began to feature more environmentally friendly packaging options. Continuing the innovation emphasis soon turned towards sustainable packaging and the use of automation and robotics in packaging and processing.

Since those early years, the interpack trade show has become more specialised, dedicating halls to specific packaging materials and machinery. This year’s expo includes areas devoted to machinery and processes ‘for the packaging of confectionery and bakery’ and ‘labelling and marking technologies’.  There will be almost 3,000 exhibitors, and more than 170,000 visitors, from 160 countries.

Today, interpack is one of the largest and most valuable exhibitions for the packaging and processing industry, attracting exhibitors and attendees from around the world. It continues to be held every three years in Düsseldorf, Germany and is a major platform for showcasing the latest trends and technologies in packaging and processing.
